Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and starring Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver, Toby Kebbell, Geraldine Chaplin, and new-comer Lewis MacDougall as Conor, A Monster Calls is an upcoming fantasy film based on a novel of the same name, A Monster Calls tells the story of Conor, a 12 year old boy who deals with his mother’s illness and bullying at school by escaping to an imaginary world of monsters and fantasy that help him to explore and deal with his problems.

There is a sense of A Bridge to Terabithia here which, if you all remember, was completely heart-breaking and we’re still picking up the pieces of when we were smashed to pieces. It’s also directed by J. A. Bayona who gave us The Impossible AND L’Orphanage, so we’re prepping our achy breaky hearts as we speak That being said, despite the wrenching sadness that is looming, this looks to be a terrific look at children, imagination, and grief.
