The phrase “Based on a True Story” is thrown around far too often these days. So much so, that we now need to add extra adjectives such as “incredible” or “unbelievable” just to keep the audience entertained.
Suffice to say, it begs the question “Can we not just cool it with the dramatic adaptations for a little while?”
The latest “true story” to spew from Hollywood’s gaping maw is American Made, telling the story of Barry Seal, a pilot who gets recruited by the CIA to start running drugs, guns and other questionably legal items to various countries where the USA doesn’t want to be seen making deals.
Honestly, when you look at the trailers, this film would work a lot better just pretending to be an act of fiction. Because it seems pretty darn entertaining!
American Made is out September!
