Something about my desire to see this film makes my stomach turn. Just the thought that someone might look at me and say “Hey Robbie, what horror films are you looking forward to this year?” and with the pressure of their unprompted, specific question grinding down on me, I’ll have to look them in the eye and say “Happy Death Day” and ruin the friendship forever. Even though I could easily say It and it would be all be okay. But I wouldn’t say It, because I cannot deny just how much I actually want to see Happy Death Day.
Happy Death Day is the story of a girl who wakes up on her birthday, and is dead by the end of it. Slaughtered by a man in a creepy baby mask, she wakes up again, in the same dorm room she did before, with all the same events occurring, until she dies again. And again. And again. Until eventually she realises she has to solve her own murder. Essentially, it’s Groundhog Day meets Edge of Tomorrow.
Happy Death Day looks so goofy and so fun that I literally can’t wait. The trailer does show a little bit more than it needs to, but no doubt that there’s a fun time involved.
Happy Death Day is out 20th October.
