Netflix’s film output can often be very hot and cold; not always bad, sometimes quite enjoyable, but often very forgettable and not a scratch on their TV shows. In the case of The Open House, it’s looking to be a little further down the scale.
A teenager and his mother find themselves besieged by threatening forces when they move into a new house. Every trope you can think of for this kind of thriller is present, and that wouldn’t be a bad thing if the film didn’t look so uninspired. From the trailer alone, the film looks a little like it’s trying to hard to fit all of this in without any real interesting approach to it. That might not be the case, but as it stands, The Open House looks very dull and run of the mill.
The Open House is available on Netflix from 19th January.
