The first trailer featuring the newest incarnation of Lisbeth Salander has arrived. The Stieg Larsson creation, introduced to us in the Millennium series of books and the original Swedish film trilogy. This time, acclaimed English actress, Claire Foy takes the lead as the hacker and investigator.
This latest take is based on David Lagercrantz continued novels. The Girl in the Spiders Web sees Lisbeth reinvented as a violent protector of women. Beginning with her exacting gruesome revenge on a wife beating CEO, a mysterious figure from her past comes back to haunt her. The trailer looks to follow the same eerie feel, with sadistic elements that has made Nordic thrillers so popular over the last decade.
The iconic lead role has now been played originally by Noomi Rapace, as well as Rooney Mara in the American remake. This film serves as a direct sequel to David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film, but with an entirely new cast. Foy looks nearly unrecognisable as Salander and the role feels like a versatile jump for the actress, who is known for playing the Queen. Will another reboot kickstart the series again?
This take is directed by Fede Alvarez, know for horrors Don’t Breath and Evil Dead. The new cast also feature Sverrir Gudnasons as Mikael Blomkvist. With Sylvia Hoeks, Claes Bang and LaKeith Stanfield.
The film will be released this November.
