Another year, another round of Academy Award nomination that leaves us a bit wanting. This year the Academy Awards have
This year is no different and the round of Academy Awards are so predictably bland. Heralding the usual characters that we’ve had this award season – The Irishman, Joker, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood…they all seem very predictable.
The acting nominations are predictably mostly white. There are so many incredible performances missing from this year’s roster including Jamie Foxx, Michael B Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Awkwafina, Kelvin Harrison Jr, Sterling K. Brown, and so many more! It’s a shame that these awards do not feel representative of the diverse and bountiful films we had of the last year.
This year is also bereft of any nominations for The Farewell which seemed a key title to at least get a nomination for Screenplay, Actress, or Score. There is also surprisingly no nomination for Taron Egerton in Rocketman. Despite getting a Best Picture nod, Little Women is without a Best Director nod which is bizarre because the direction is so key to
But let’s celebrate some positives, shall we? We’re all aboard the Parasite train as it grabs Best Director, Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Production Design nominations. We’re happy to see Florence Pugh with a nomination for her incredible performance for Little Women and Cynthia Erivo gets a nod for Leading Actress for I Lost My Body scoops an Oscar nomination for Best Animation which we’re THRILLED about. We also love Rian Johnson’s writing nomination for Knives Out!
